Charlie Wilton
Consultant

Charlie has seven years’ experience focused on developing and delivering crisis simulations and training as well as guiding clients through live crises.

He has advised clients facing a range of issues from product safety through to workplace fatalities, culture wars and those facing legal action. He also has extensive experience of pre-crisis scenario planning and the implementation of crisis management team structures and processes.

He has worked across a variety of sectors, including finance, FMCG, energy, and technology. His previous clients include HSBC, Shell, Unilever, Heineken and Compass Group PLC and a number of UK and international government bodies.

At Insignia, Charlie is responsible for the development, project management and delivery of crisis management exercises and workshops, working closely with our clients as their main point of contact. His previous work in this area has included developing scenarios that have centred on topics as diverse as mass redundancies, civil unrest and war, and allegations of human rights abuses. All of these scenarios have been focussed on giving senior leadership teams the opportunity to stretch their capabilities during a credible crisis event.

Charlie also develops crisis management and crisis communication plans for our clients and conducts audits on clients’ existing plans, making recommendations for improvement.

Prior to joining Insignia in 2023, Charlie worked at global communications consultancy Edelman, where he specialised in reputation, crisis preparedness and response. Charlie became interested in crisis management during his first communication role, in which he advised clients handling various live issues.

A born-and-bred Sunderland fan, Charlie also collects vinyl records, enjoys Basquiat paintings, and runs half-marathons in his spare time.

"The best thing about working at Insignia is the opportunity to make real, impactful differences to our clients' operations. Delivering challenging training really pushes our clients to rehearse their processes, and can identify gaps or flaws which if not addressed could have significant impact on how a live incident plays out".
